What to Wear

Academic Regalia

Academic Regalia must be worn to participate in the commencement ceremony. Regalia sets must be purchased at the Penn State Berks Bookstore. Contact the bookstore at 610-396-6100.

A blue gown with wide sleeves and a blue mortarboard cap with a tassel may be purchased for $57, plus tax. Extra tassels are also available at $5 each.

For your convenience, personalized commencement announcements can be ordered through the Bookstore. The Bookstore also carries Penn State "thank you" cards and diploma frames.

Academic Regalia and other clothing guidelines

Due to the formality of this occasion and safety concerns, please wear appropriate footwear; flip flops, clogs, very high heels, and loose fitting shoes are not recommended.

It is requested that men wear slacks and a dress shirt with a tie. For women, slacks with a blouse or a dress is appropriate.

Undergraduate academic regalia is a blue gown with wide sleeves and a blue mortarboard cap with a tassel, worn on the right front edge. You will move the tassel to the left edge when directed by the Associate Dean, only after every student has been recognized.

Baccalaureate and master's caps and gowns differ from each other. Please check your regalia for accuracy and quality before the day of the ceremony.

Remember to steam your gown before commencement to remove wrinkles from packaging.

**No regalia (caps and gowns) will be available at the ceremony**

Please note: There will NOT be a professional photographer on site to take individual photographs of each graduate at the commencement ceremony.
