“Be Bold, Take Charge,” a multi-sector community health initiative between Penn State Berks and Penn State Health St. Joseph, is hosting a professional clothing drive in partnership with Goodwill Industries and Berks Connections Pretrial Services through April 2.
As part of the Great American Cleanup, Penn State Berks students and children in the city of Reading will gather in Northwest Reading to clean up Baer Park and a 1-mile section of the Schuylkill River Trail, from the River Road trailhead across from Baer Park to the Buttonwood Street Bridge, from 4 to 6 p.m. on April 3.
Penn State Berks, a leader in developing open educational resources to enhance learning and lower the cost of education for students globally, will celebrate Open Education Week from March 27 to 31, an event promoted by the Open Education Consortium.
Penn State Berks will join a national movement to raise awareness about issues related to hunger by hosting its first Oxfam Hunger Banquet for students at 7 p.m. on March 23 in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This event is open to current Penn State Berks students.
The Freyberger Gallery will host a special juried exhibition to honor the late CEO Emeritus Frederick H. Gaige. This exhibit includes the work of more than 40 artists from Berks County and surrounding regions, selected by art instructors Janice Trusky, Penn State Berks, and Bob Stickloon, Penn State Schuylkill. The exhibit runs from March 22 to April 20, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. on March 22. This event is free and open to the public.
The Global Studies program at Penn State Berks will host a Global Forum 2017 with a presentation titled "Soaring Past 7 Billion: Population Challenges for a Crowded World" by John Seager, president and CEO of Population Connection, at 12:15 p.m. on March 20 in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Penn State Berks students will turn Opportunity House, the Reading emergency shelter, into a five-star restaurant for its clients on the evening of Tuesday, March 28. Students will serve a four-course meal to Opportunity House clients, as well as an evening to remember.
