Entrepreneurship Speaker Series at Penn State Berks

The 2013 Fall Entrepreneurship Speaker Series Panel Discussion will be held on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. in room 121 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Nittany Lion and Santa Sighting slated for Dec. 3

The Penn State Berks Alumni Office will hold a Nittany Lion and Santa Sighting for children of Penn State alumni and University employees on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. in the Janssen Conference Center. The cost is $5 per child, and the event will include crafts, coloring, and photos with the Nittany Lion and/or Santa for children, while adults enjoy light refreshments and socialize with other Penn State alumni and friends. Each child will also receive a gift from Santa.

College holds Thanksgiving Dinner for international students

The Penn State Berks Multicultural Office will hold a Thanksgiving Dinner to introduce international students to this traditional holiday on Thursday, November 14, 2013, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This event is open to Penn State Berks students, faculty, and staff, and attendees must have a ticket for the event.

Veterans Week Programs to be held at Penn State Berks

In honor of National Veterans Week, Penn State Berks will host two events: a Veterans Recognition Program on Monday, November 11, 2013, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Lion's Den of the Perkins Student Center, and a Veterans Discussion Panel on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.

Theatre at Berks presents Danny and the Deep Blue Sea

The Penn State Berks Theatre department will present "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea," written by John Patrick Shanley. This play will be co-directed by a student, Julia Elberfeld, a junior theatre major, and Radhica Ganapathy, Assistant Professor of Theatre. Shows are scheduled for November 11-15, 2013 at 8 p.m., in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. Elberfeld was selected to co-direct the play when her directing style was observed in a theatre course and it was deemed to be a good fit for the production.

Lecture examines using case studies to engage students

The next Engineering, Business, and Computing (EBC) Division Speaker Series Presentation will feature Dr. Paul Esqueda, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Penn State Berks. He will present his seminar on "Research and Teaching in Writing Case Studies: The Case of Negotiations" on Monday November 4, 2013, from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. in room 121, Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This presentation is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Students present research at CPAAM’s 15th anniversary celebration

As part of the Central Pennsylvania African American Museum's fifteenth anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 26, 2013, Penn State Berks students will present research that they conducted on local African American history as part of their English coursework. The celebration will take place from 1-4 p.m., and the students will present their research from approximately 3-3:40 pm. Students and their research presentations are as follows:

Berks Degree Fair promotes academic programs

Penn State Berks will hold a Degree Fair for currently enrolled students on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Tully's. Students attending the fair will receive a coupon for a free lunch on the day they attend. The fair will showcase the college's baccalaureate degree programs. Each degree program will have a display table of information, and faculty and current students enrolled in the major will be available to discuss the various aspects of the degree program and answer students' questions.

Shaffer publishes book on Radicalism in Puerto Rico

Dr. Kirwin R. Shaffer, Associate Professor of Latin American Studies at Penn State Berks, has recently published a book on radicalism in Puerto Rico titled Black Flag Boricuas: Anarchism, Antiauthoritarianism, and the Left in Puerto Rico, 1897-1921. The book was published by University of Illinois Press.
