Penn State Berks hosts forum, presentation on anti-Muslim racism, Oct. 25

The Penn State Berks global studies degree program will host a forum with a presentation titled “How Hate Crime Laws Perpetuate Anti-Muslim Racism” on Oct. 25. Evelyn Alsultany, professor of American studies and ethnicity at the University of Southern California, is the featured speaker for the forum, which is free and open to the public.

Berks professor tells Malaysian WWII survivors’ stories in VR, digital exhibit

This past spring, Cheryl Nicholas, associate professor of communication arts and sciences and global studies at Penn State Berks, and Heidi Mau, a professor from Albright College, led a team of students on the creation of a virtual reality/digital exhibition at the Perak Museum in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia, which opened on Aug. 15 to a crowd of more than 3,000 attendees, including government ministers. The exhibition, which runs through Oct. 22, gives viewers a snapshot of that moment in history.

Penn State Berks hosts 'Halloweek' events beginning Oct. 17

Penn State Berks will host its annual “Halloweek” events, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 17, with Kendall R. Phillips’ lecture “Get Out and the Third Golden Age of Horror” at 6 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. The week continues with the college's fourth annual Fall Fest on Friday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. The week will conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 24, with the presentation of “The Truth about Halloween” at 6 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. All three events are free and open to the public.

Penn State Berks holds Cybersecurity Awareness Month events

In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, three Penn State Berks degree programs –––cybersecurity analytics and operations, security and risk analysis, and information technology programs – will join forces to host events to increase awareness about cybersecurity issues and best practices among the campus and local community.
