Student teachers from Penn State Berks and elementary school students at Glenside Elementary School will see the fruit of their labors this Saturday, May 3, 2014, when the garden project they have worked so hard to revitalize is unveiled during a special Garden Party from 2-4 p.m. at the elementary school. This event is free and open to the public.
This summer, approximately 1,000 first-year students who will begin their studies in the fall semester at Penn State Berks will get a preview of what college life will be like through the New Student Orientation Part 1: Advising & Scheduling (NSO1) program, which runs from mid-June to early-July.
Penn State Berks will hold an online information session for its Accelerated Business degree program on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, from noon - 1:00 p.m. Attendees will learn more about how to complete 60+ business credits toward the bachelor's degree in Business in a 20-month, accelerated Saturday program.
The second summer sessions at Penn State Berks will begin on June 23, 2014. The six-week session runs from June 23-July 31. Courses are offered in biology, chemistry, English, geology, history, mathematics, psychology, Spanish, and other disciplines. Two students have launched their first mobile app, a game called Bubble Barrage, at the Google Play Store. Christian Nimako-Boateng and Kosho Hoshitsuki, both members of the Penn State Berks Entrepreneurship Club, developed MisMatchedDev Studio as an experimental venture to create applications for mobile devices. Bubble Barrage is the MisMatchedDev Studio's first project.
Graduating Student teachers build a garden at Glenside
Two graduating Childhood and Early Adolescent Education majors, Melissa Sauer and Bethany Connors, who is also one of the college's student marshals, were instrumental in building a garden at Glenside Elementary School this semester.

Felix Greiner came a long way to earn a B.A. in Global Studies and become one of Penn State Berks' student marshals, a graduating student with one of the highest grade-point averages. Born in Sweden, he met his wife, Dr. Radhica Ganapathy, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Penn State Berks, in 1998 after moving to India with his mother who accepted a position there. They dated but eventually drifted apart when Greiner moved back to Sweden and Ganapathy moved to the United States.
When Chris Brendel graduates on May 10, 2014, he won't have to worry about how he is going to pay for the graduate program in linguistics in which he plans to enroll. That's because he has already been assured $30,000 for graduate school through the Beinecke Scholarship, which he was awarded in 2013.
You might say that TiQuann Jett-Jamison is a fighter. Born with gastroschesis, a birth defect in which an infant's intestines stick out of the body through a defect on one side of the umbilical cord, he spent the first year-and-a-half of his life in the hospital. He continued to struggle with the condition and missed most of the ninth grade due to an intestinal blockage.
But he didn't let his physical condition slow him down. Despite being in the hospital, he continued his studies and passed the ninth grade.
