Berks to offer baccalaureate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Penn State Berks has recently received approval from the University to offer the Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to its academic programs, beginning in the fall semester of 2014. Penn State Berks will be the only campus outside University Park to offer the B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Penn State Berks announces launch of One Button Studio

The Penn State Berks Center for Learning and Teaching announces the launch of the new One Button Studio, a simplified video recording studio that can easily be used by virtually anyone by simply touching one button. There will be an Open House celebration on Monday March 31, 2014, from 1- 2:30 pm, in the One Button Studio (Room 127, Boscov-Lakin Information Commons at the Thun Library). This event is open to the campus community and will include light refreshments and giveaways.

Applied Psychology students serve lunch and career advice at Opportunity House

Penn State Berks Applied Psychology students completing their senior internship seminar class chose a community service event to complete as a group. Approximately 22 seniors will volunteer at Opportunity House in Reading on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. They will serve lunch in the soup kitchen and also provide the attendees with helpful information about finding employment.

College Honors Women Veterans in March

In celebration of Women's History Month, Penn State Berks will hold a program titled Honoring Our Nation's Women Veterans on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Lions Den. This event is free and open to the public.

Plastic Garbage Patch lecture explores waste in Pacific Ocean

What is the so-called "Plastic Garbage Patch" in the Pacific Ocean really all about? In the fall of 2012, renowned author, adventurer, and conservationist Jonathan Waterman decided to investigate. He'll discuss his findings on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Freyberger Gallery presents "Artist and Artist"

The Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery will present the exhibition Artist and Artist by photographer Jen Lindsay and painter Matt Mazurkiewicz, from April 3-24, 2014. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, April 3, at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

HASS Colloquium features two Berks faculty

  The next Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) Colloquium will include two presentations: "An Invitation to (Re) Teach Mathematics" by Dr. Hartono Tjoe, Assistant Professor of Math Education, and "Traumatized Communities" by Dr. Randall Fegley, Associate Professor of History and Politics. It will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 1:00-2:20 p.m. in room 104 of the Franco Building. This event is open to the campus community and light refreshments will be served.

Christian Student Fellowship helps victims of Hurricane Sandy

The Penn State Berks Christian Student Fellowship (CSF), a student group, is spending their spring break in Queens, New York, helping to rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The group of 16 students departed on Sunday, March 9, 2014, and will return on Saturday, March 15.
