READING, Pa. — The Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery has announced the opening of its fall season with the Three Artist Exhibition, which runs from Sept. 5 to Oct. 10. The artists — Erika Stearly, Mike Miller and Delores Kershner — were selected by jurors from the 2019 Frederick H. Gaige Juried Exhibition.
Stearly, Miller and Kershner created a collaborative, site-specific work for the exhibition, which will be unveiled at the opening reception at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. This event is free and open to the public.
Stearly, of Kutztown, Pennsylvania, paints large, gestural canvases with bright and dynamic interiors. She has received several artist grants, most recently through the Puffin Foundation. Her paintings have been exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions, including at Penn State in 2015 while she served as artist-in-residence.
Miller, of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, is a mural artist, who was commissioned to create the college’s 60th anniversary installation. He has had solo exhibits at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, the Fleisher Art Memorial, and the Germantown Academy Arts Center. For this exhibit, he will create an installation using pyramid-shaped objects and mirrors that reflect and refract light.
Kirschner, of Oley, Pennsylvania, is a ceramic sculptor and installation artist who is committed to social justice and the power of arts programming to transform lives and communities. She established a not-for-profit arts center, Clay on Main, in Oley.
The Freyberger Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, contact Marilyn Fox, gallery director, at 610-396-6140 or [email protected].
