The Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery will host the Nancey Seghetti Memorial Exhibition in memory of the late artist from Oct. 17 to Nov. 14, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. Oct. 24. This event is free and open to the public.
Nancey Seghetti, owner of The Mosaic Studio, was well known in West Reading. She was instrumental in the creation of many of the community art projects in the area, including a brightly colored mosaic frog sculpture. In addition, she was one of the original founders of the Art on the Avenue, an annual art and music festival in West Reading.
Seghetti traveled extensively to learn her craft, experiencing both ancient and contemporary forms of mosaic and tiling. These explorations took her to England, Spain, Italy, and India, where she studied with Nek Chand, a self-taught mosaic artist who created the 25-acre Rock Garden in India, which is visited daily by thousands of tourists.
The artist died in 2018 but her mark on the community lives on. This exhibition will showcase numerous works by the artist, including mosaic pieces, paintings, and assemblages.
The Freyberger Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, contact Marilyn Fox, gallery director, at 610-396-6140 or [email protected].
