Penn State Berks honored two current students and one alumna during this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Banquet on Jan. 18. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's event was held virtually via Zoom.
One Berks alumna — Corina Piller, class of 2016 — took advantage of the state’s shutdown to pursue a new hobby — creating soy wax candles, which has blossomed into a full-time business.
Aurora Brunovsky, a 2009 Penn State alumna and member of the University's Human Resources team, helped raise funds to donate over 1,000 masks to local non-profits in need. "We want to unite people in our community and give them a way to give back if they can’t find one,” she said.
The keynote speaker will be Aniyia Williams, former student of Penn State Berks and University Park and a 2007 Penn State Schreyer Honors College graduate, and the founder of Tinsel, a tech jewelry start-up based in Silicon Valley.
