University Libraries to observe World Standards Week with Oct. 12 event

In observance of the American National Standard Institute’s World Standards Week in October, Penn State University Libraries is planning an afternoon of activities Oct. 12 with the theme “Imagine a World Without Standards.” The event will focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which project to address social imbalances, develop a sustainable economy and slow the rate of climate change.

Penn State Berks mechanical engineering degree receives ABET accreditation

Penn State Berks baccalaureate degree program in mechanical engineering has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. The degree program has been accredited by ABET since 2016.

Beginning in mid-September, Penn State Berks will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of events; each event is intended for a specific audience, including prospective and current students, the campus community, and the general public. Some events will be held in-person and others will have virtual options.

Penn State Berks launches Adult Learner Peer Mentor Program

In an effort to better serve its adult student learners, Penn State Berks has launched the Adult Learner Peer Mentor Program in the fall 2022 semester. The program seeks to enhance and enrich adult education by pairing seasoned and academically successful adult learners with incoming adult students.

President Bendapudi oversees dedication of Penn State Berks wellness center

Leaders from around the commonwealth gathered at Penn State Berks on Friday, Aug. 26, to celebrate the dedication of the newly renovated and expanded Beaver Athletics and Wellness Center. President Neeli Bendapudi was on hand to mark the culmination of the $30 million project, which revamped the original structure into a 76,000-square-foot modern facility designed to support academic programs and recreational activities.

Engineering Ahead bridges gap for incoming students

Penn State Berks is helping a future generation of engineering students to succeed through the college’s Engineering Ahead Program, which is now in its seventh year. The goal of the four-week summer “bridge” program, which ran from June 26 to July 22, is to increase retention rates among a diverse group of engineering students by enhancing academic preparedness and providing support.

The Penn State Office for General Education announced four faculty who will serve as leaders to help to elevate General Education across the University, including Kira Hamman, assistant teaching professor of mathematics, Penn State Mont Alto.

Penn State Berks and Star City Boxing team up to tell real-life stories

What happens when students in the Penn State Berks "Storytelling for Social Justice" course team up with Star City Boxing, a nonprofit community boxing and fitness program located in the City of Reading? The result is a published book titled “Stories from Star City Boxing,” a companion website, and two videos that tell the stories of the impact the organization has made on youth in the Greater Reading area.
