The Penn State Berks Technology Club (BTC) visited Google’s headquarters in New York City on Friday, Nov. 22. The excursion included a tour, followed by a question-and-answer session with Google employees.
Berks criminal justice students and youth from the RIZE program recently met at the GoggleWorks Center in Reading. The purpose of the meeting was to have an open discussion -- through artistic media -- about social justice issues in the city of Reading.
Penn State Berks technical staff and Teamsters Local Union 8 have organized a holiday food drive on campus, which will run through Wednesday, Dec. 11. All items will be donated to the Berks County food bank Helping Harvest.
Penn State Berks students will hold two important community service events in November. They will transform Opportunity House, the Reading emergency shelter, into a five-star restaurant on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 7, and assist with the breakfast for veterans at Country Meadows of Wyomissing on Monday, Nov. 11.
The Penn State Berks LaunchBox, located within the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania, will hold a Meetup titled “Global Entrepreneurship: Latin American Perspectives” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.
On Nov. 9, Penn State rehabilitation and human services students will transform the Reading Recreation Commission, located at 320 S. Third St., into a pop-up playground for children ages 5-12 in the city of Reading. The goals of the initiative are to give children in the city of Reading a true ‘free play’ experience and to provide rehabilitation and human services majors an opportunity to create, facilitate and analyze a play experience.
Penn State Berks will join forces with Reading Senior High School and local artists to present a community program titled “Breaking Barriers – Building Bridges” beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Reading High School, 801 N 13th St., Reading, Pennsylvania.
The Flemming Creativity, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Center, located within the Penn State Berks Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, will hold its biannual Creativity and Entrepreneurship Workshop on Nov. 11 for Reading School District students enrolled in the Penn State Educational Partnership Program. The goal of the program is to explore the concepts of creative thinking and entrepreneurship.

This fall, two Penn State Berks professors traveled nearly 4,500 miles to the University of Split in Croatia and they could not believe how much things had changed in the one year since they had last been there.
