Penn State Berks students enrolled in the course “The Rhetoric of American Horror Films” encountered a new twist in this year’s syllabus. While in past semesters, students in CAS 415 would write an academic research paper analyzing the rhetoric of horror films, this spring students had the opportunity to submit creative projects, supported by research.
The winning writers of Penn State University Libraries Short Stories’ “April Showers” spring 2020 contest have been announced. Representing six Penn State campuses, the latest writing contest challenged Penn State students, faculty and staff across the commonwealth to unleash their best original short stories or poetry on the theme of weather.
In an effort to highlight the Penn State Values among the student population, the Penn State Berks Diversity Committee held its second annual Penn State Values Poetry Writing Contest.
Penn State Berks students collaborated with members of the Latino community to publish a book titled "Our City Inside Out: Changing Perceptions of Reading." A book launch will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Doubletree Hotel.
Penn State University Libraries Short Stories’ “The Other Side” spring 2019 contest winners included 11 student honorees, three faculty/staff honorees, and one local middle school student honoree. Each of the four Libraries Short Stories Editorial Board winners and the People’s Choice winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card. All winners and honorable mentions will have their stories placed on the Libraries’ Short Edition short story dispensers.
Students from Penn State Berks and Albright College have partnered with some of the dancers who performed in “This Is Reading,” a performance art installation unveiled in 2017, to publish a book titled “We Are Reading: Dancing in the City.”
As Penn State University Libraries launches into its third University-wide Libraries Short Stories writing contest, previous Penn State authors’ winning works now have twice the potential to be printed and read across Pennsylvania, with the University Libraries’ installation of new Short Edition story dispensers at five of its Commonwealth Campus libraries.
Penn State University Libraries Short Stories “Lost and Found” Fall 2018 contest winners and honorable mentions represent a wide range of creative writers University-wide. Nine student honorees range from first-year through senior undergraduates to a doctoral student and represent six campuses and six colleges, and five faculty/staff honorees represent three campuses.
Two Penn State Berks students received awards in the fifth annual Spanish Poetry Writing Contest sponsored by the Latin American Cultural Center of Lancaster
Dr. Chidi Achebe, physician executive and the son of the late Chinua Achebe, author of the novel "Things Fall Apart," will present two lectures at Penn State Berks on Feb. 21. The first is part of the Global Studies Forum, titled “Investment in Nigeria” at 12:15 p.m. The second is part of the college’s Arts and Lecture Series, titled “Inequalities in Health Care in the United States: Why We Should Care” at 7 p.m. Both lectures will be held in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room and are free and open to the public.
