Penn State Berks granted Sigma Delta Pi charter, inducts four students

Penn State Berks has been granted a charter from the National Spanish Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi, which recognizes college students who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language, literature, and cultures, and who are committed to understanding the Hispanic world. Four Berks students will be inducted during the inaugural ceremony on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 5 p.m. in room 105, Franco Building.

Berks engineering team is finalist in Inc.U competition

Two Penn State Berks engineering students are tackling the issue of plastic waste by using it as filament for 3-D printers. Their team, Trimatis, is one of six finalists competing in this year’s Inc.U competition, sponsored by Penn State’s Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP). The finalists earned a spot on WPSU’s "The Investment" television show where they will pitch their ideas in a "Shark Tank"-style format to a panel of judges for a chance to win investment funding. The show will air on WPSU-TV on April 7.

Penn State New Kensington Chancellor Kevin Snider presents the vision for Corner CON 2018. The event aimed to create and build awareness of innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E), engage participants through collaborative ideation and begin to articulate action steps the campus will take to integrate I&E on and off campus so that students are prepared with skills necessary for the jobs and opportunities of the future. Corner CON was held at The Corner, the campus' entrepreneurial center.

Penn State Berks is celebrating its history while preparing students for the future through National Engineers Week events and activities, held Feb. 19–23. Penn State Berks, the only college in Berks County to offer baccalaureate degrees in engineering, is celebrating its 60th anniversary throughout 2018.

Theatre meets engineering at Penn State Berks

While majoring in engineering and minoring in theatre may seem like an odd combination at first, three Penn State Berks Engineering students with theatre minors find that it is opening doors for them in unexpected ways. They recently had the opportunity to expand their technical knowledge by participating in the 50th Annual Region 2 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania in January.

Deeter honored with FFA American Degree

Ricki Kay Deeter enrolled in the Business degree at Penn State Berks because she wanted to help establish and grow her family’s farm in Pine Grove, PA. Her studies have paid off by enhancing her agricultural skills. As a result, she was recently honored with the National FFA (Future Farmers of America) American Degree.
