Students who will be high school seniors and their families are invited to attend the Penn State Berks Spend a Summer Morning program on July 16. Faculty, staff and current Berks students will provide important information to students who are considering admission for the fall of 2017.
While some students will be traveling to the shore or the mountains this summer, Penn State junior Caleb Kitchen will spend July 29 to Aug. 12 in China as part of Huawei Seeds for the Future Program 2016. Kitchen, who has a double major in security and risk analysis and Chinese, is one of 20 students participating in the all-expense-paid, two-week program in China for students majoring in STEM fields.
In an effort to improve recycling efforts at Penn State Berks, the campus' Sustainability Team sought the assistance of the Media Commons to develop a student written and produced video focusing on the PepsiCo Dream Machine, a convenient and rewarding way to recycle bottles and cans on the go in a kiosk in Tully’s cafeteria in the Perkins Student Center.
Penn State continues to adapt to emerging technologies to improve the student experience through Project LionPATH, a multi-year initiative to replace Penn State’s existing student information system (ISIS) designed in the early 1980s. The initiative, which began in fall 2015, is scheduled to be fully functional this fall.
Penn State Berks offers a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related Middle School Youth Camps in a fun and relaxed environment. The camps are for students entering fifth through eighth grades in fall 2016. Camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
With a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related fields, students attending Penn State Berks Discovery High School Youth Camps will learn about various career fields, the world around them and themselves. The camps are for students entering ninth through 12th grades in fall 2016. Camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11–15.
E. Michele Ramsey, associate professor of communication arts & sciences and women's studies at Penn State Berks, has recently been honored with the 2016 Junior League of Reading Community Partner Award.
For the past five years, students in the BI SC 003 Environmental Science course at Penn State Berks have worked collaboratively in teams to complete an Environmental Awareness and Community Action Project (EACAP). Led by Mahsa Kazempour, associate professor of science education, students research an environmental issue of their choice and work with a community organization to support actions focused on addressing environmental issues locally.
Randall Fegley, associate professor of history and politics at Penn State Berks, examines the concept of myth and trauma as experienced by Rwandans and how Rwanda is viewed by the outside world in his new book, "A History of Rwandan Identity and Trauma: The Mythmakers’ Victims."
Penn State’s annual celebration of Constitution Day will take place on Friday, Sept. 16 at University Park, with events happening throughout the month of September across Penn State campuses.
