Coding Bootcamp gives students, professionals competitive edge

Current college students and professionals who want a competitive edge can "enlist" in the Penn State Berks Coding Bootcamp. This new summer program will provide in-depth training in JAVA programming with the goal of helping current college students get ahead in their studies and eventually the job market, while giving professionals a competitive advantage in their careers. Penn State Berks is the only college in Berks County to offer such a program.

Facility for Rare Isotope Beams at MSU topic of Losoncy Lecture Series

In the fifth annual George J. Losoncy Lecture in Physics and Astronomy, Dr. Paul Mantica, a world-renowned nuclear physical chemist and the Deputy Project Manager of Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, a new scientific user facility for nuclear science at Michigan State University, will give a lecture titled "Facility for Rare Isotope Beams: Current Construction Status and Future Science Opportunities" on Friday, April 8, 2016, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Berks participates in University’s first Open Educational Resources Summit

Penn State Berks will participate in Penn State's first Open Educational Resources (OER) Summit on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Thun Library, room 145. This University-wide summit aims to educate participants about OER, share updates from the provost-charged OER task force, and showcase Penn State faculty examples of OER in practice.

Penn State Berks raises over $51K toward THON total

During the weekend of Feb. 19-21, 2016, the Berks benefitting THON student group raised an impressive $51,662 toward the overall total, and ranked third among Penn State campuses in fundraising. In total, THON raised $9.8 million for the Four Diamonds Fund. Short for the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, THON is the 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund, which supports families battling pediatric cancer.

Kinesiology Department “takes scores” at UGI Health/Wellness Fair

The Penn State Berks Kinesiology department will lend their expertise to UGI Energy Services for their first Health/Wellness and Small Business Fair on Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at their headquarters, located at One Meridian Boulevard, Wyomissing, PA. Faculty and student members of the Penn State Berks Kinesiology Department will offer tests and measurements, followed by a complete review and interpretation of all results, which will be discussed with the employee.

Penn State Berks to host the first "Leadership & Education" conference

Penn State Berks will host the first "Leadership & Education" conference on Saturday, April 9, 2016. The leadership conference will provide a dynamic, interactive forum for values-based, purpose-driven, and applied leadership development focusing on eight majors at Penn State Berks. This conference will be coordinated, developed, and administered by students, in collaboration with faculty.

“Rosewater: An Iranian Odyssey” slated for March 23

In Rosewater: An Iranian Odyssey, Maziar Bahari tells the story that was the inspiration for his riveting memoir, Rosewater: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival and Rosewater, the 2014 film directed by The Daily Show's Jon Stewart. The presentation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium, Penn State Berks. It is free and open to the public.

Freyberger Gallery presents “Forsyth and Farrell”

The Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery will present the exhibition Forsyth and Farrell from March 17-April 21, 2016. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 17, at 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
