This spring, a team from the Penn State Berks criminal justice degree program met with Pennsylvania State Sen. Judy Schwank and a Clare of Assisi House task force to discuss funding for programs that support women, particularly mothers returning to the community after incarceration.

The latest issue of the Wind Vision Report estimates that wind energy will supply 20% of the country’s electricity in 2030, and 35% in 2050. Increasingly larger wind farms pose a challenge due to the land area required. Penn State Berks recently received funding for a proposal titled “Evaluation of Clustering Effect in Harmony Turbine's Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Farms” to study this alternative method. The grant is for $69,833, and it will be matched in its entirety by Penn State.
The Penn State Berks softball team capped off its magical run with a strong showing at the Salisbury Regional of the NCAA Tournament this past weekend. Berks returned to the national stage after missing out the last two seasons after winning the United East Championship on Sunday, May 7. The team went 1-2 this past weekend, marking the fourth time they have won a game at regionals.
Penn State Berks police officers will offer free child safety seat inspections to the local community from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Implement Building by the Peiffer House (corner of Broadcasting and Tulpehocken roads) at Penn State Berks. There will be directional signs.

The Penn State Berks Softball Team defeated top seed Penn College, 5-3, to win the United East Championship on May 8, and making the NCAA Tournament, which is a field of 62 teams out of 400 schools that offer softball. Briana Smith, who stepped it up to another level in the circle and at the plate, was named the United East Tournament MVP.
