Careers with Math Options Conference encourages female students

Penn State Berks will host its sixteenth annual Careers with Math Options Conference on Friday, May 16, 2014, for female middle school students from Berks County and surrounding school districts. The conference will feature speakers from Penn State Berks and the community. A wide variety of engaging and interactive workshops will be provided to encourage the young women to continue their studies in math, science, engineering, technology, finance, and related fields.

Penn State Berks creates video to Pharrell’s “Happy” soundtrack

Students, faculty, and staff at Penn State Berks are showing just how happy they are through a new online video set to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" soundtrack. The video project was a joint effort between Dr. Michele Ramsey, Associate Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences and Women's Studies, Berks alumnus Connor Hough, and Penn State Berks senior Tom Smith, both Communication Arts and Sciences majors.

Penn State Berks students camp out for hunger

Penn State Berks students will "camp out for hunger" on Friday, April 25, 2014, beginning at 9 p.m. in the Perkins Plaza. The Penn State Berks Office of Campus Life will host the college's fifth annual Camp Out for Hunger event. This event is for students only; it is not open to the public.

Penn State Berks students observe Earth Day

Penn State Berks students in Dr. Mahsa Kazempour's sections of BiSC3: Environmental Science course are planning an Earth Day (April 23, 2014) celebration and invite the entire campus community to join them in these or similar efforts.

Steensland to speak at May Commencement

Dr. Blaine Steensland, Senior Director of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, will be the keynote speaker at the Penn State Berks spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outdoors on the Perkins plaza. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into the Beaver Community Center. A new class of more than 150 Penn State Berks students will participate in the ceremony, receiving their baccalaureate and associate degrees.

Workshops on 3D printer slated for common hour

Students, faculty, and staff interested in learning more about 3-D printers are invited to attend workshops held by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CEED) every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through the end of April 2014, at 1 p.m. in room 111 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. These student-led workshops will demonstrate how to print 3D models of various objects on a miniature scale. Announcements will also be made about future projects coming soon to the CEED. Penn State Berks to offer Criminal Justice

Penn State Berks has recently received approval from the University to offer both the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, beginning in the fall semester of 2014.

Penn State Berks students and Glenside elementary school children build garden

The seeds of the idea were sown in the form of a class assignment: Penn State Berks student teachers were asked to develop a project that they could give their elementary school students to make a difference in their elementary school. Senior Childhood and Early Elementary Education majors Melissa Sauer and April Moore put their heads together and the idea of creating a garden at Glenside Elementary School took root.
