Student overcomes incredible odds to graduate

You might say that TiQuann Jett-Jamison is a fighter. Born with gastroschesis, a birth defect in which an infant's intestines stick out of the body through a defect on one side of the umbilical cord, he spent the first year-and-a-half of his life in the hospital. He continued to struggle with the condition and missed most of the ninth grade due to an intestinal blockage. But he didn't let his physical condition slow him down. Despite being in the hospital, he continued his studies and passed the ninth grade.

Public presentation of projects designed to help nonprofit agencies

Local nonprofit agencies are reaping the rewards of Penn State Berks Information Sciences & Technology class projects. Students enrolled in two IST classes will present their final class projects, which focus on helping local nonprofit agencies meet an existing need. These presentations are open to the public.

Christel awarded internship at nation’s largest no-kill animal sanctuary

Megan Christel, a junior Communication Arts & Sciences major from Reading, has landed her dream internship at Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest no-kill animal sanctuary and shelter, located in Utah. Christel leaves for five-week internship in mid May. Those who know Christel attest that she loves animals, especially dogs. She hopes to one day open her own nonprofit shelter for animals and this internship is the first step to help her realize her dream of helping create a better world.

Pitts’ poems published in The Voices Project

Xezania Pitts, a first-year Journalism major at Penn State Berks, recently had two of her poems accepted by The Voices Project. "Lonely" will be published the week of June 23, 2014, and "Addicted" will be published at a later date.

Students learn through Discovery High School Youth Camps

Students attending Penn State Berks Discovery High School Youth Camps will learn about different career fields, the world around them, and themselves. The camps are for students entering ninth through twelfth grades in fall 2014. Camps run from Monday-Friday, July 11-14, 2014, from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Hafer accepted into REU Program at Wadsworth Center

Terry Hafer, a sophomore Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major at Penn State Berks, was recently accepted into the 2014 summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program at the Wadsworth Center. This National Science Foundation-sponsored REU Site program will run from June 9-August 14, 2014.
