Visitors to Penn State Berks will find it easier to navigate their way around campus with the launch of a new, enhanced online map. The new map, available for both desktop and mobile platforms, includes 3D views of campus and integrates with OpenStreetMap for areas around campus. The map project is co-sponsored by the Penn State Offices of the Vice President for Information Technology and Vice President for Strategic Communications, and is led by a University-wide team of representatives from various academic and administrative units.
The new Berks map will be introduced with drone footage that gives an overview of the campus, shot independently by Onuku Industries, an innovative drone start-up company that uses customized software. Onuku was founded by Kyle Moyer, Anthony Rothenberger and Jason King, alumni of the college’s Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology program. Greg Flemming, a retired IBM executive, serves as CFO of the company.
“The interactive maps will provide students and visitors with a modern, mobile-friendly experience for anyone planning a visit to a Penn State campus,” said Lawrence Lokman, vice president for Strategic Communications at Penn State University Park.
Additional features will include walking tours that will help visitors find their way around campus and a 3D virtual tour to bring the campus to life from anywhere in the world.
Maps also will include up-to-date information about campus events such as student arrival days, commencement, new student orientation, Homecoming, and arts and athletic events. Map users are encouraged to check back often, as new features will continue to be added over time.
