Penn State Berks designated 'Military Friendly'

Penn State Berks was recently awarded “military friendly” designation due to its commitment to serving veterans. The college received the designation of 2015 Military Friendly School from Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine.

Penn State Berks observes National Coming Out Day

The Office of Multicultural Programs will hold a workshop about what it's like to "come out" in honor of National Coming Out Day. The workshop will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014, at 1:15 p.m. in room 3 of the Perkins Student Center. In addition, information will be available in the Perkins first floor lobby from 12-2:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the Berks campus community.

Students promote "Guts & Glory" digestive health event

Students enrolled in the Penn State Berks Public Relations Media and Methods course are working with My Gut Instinct, Inc. and St. Joseph Hospital this fall to help promote "Guts and Glory" Digestive Wellness Expo through a variety of print, broadcast, and social media. The event will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA. The expo is free and open to the public.

Packing with biased random-key genetic algorithms topic of EBC Speaker Series

The upcoming Engineering, Business, and Computing (EBC) Division Speaker Series Presentation will focus on 2D/3D bin packing with biased random-key genetic algorithms. Mauricio G. C. Resende, Lead Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Labs Research in Middletown, New Jersey, will give the presentation on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, in room 244 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This presentation is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Workshop for Student Veterans slated for Oct. 1

Penn State Berks Office of Veterans Services will hold an informational workshop for student veterans on veteran benefits on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Perkins Student Center.

Prospective Students Invited to Penn State Day

Prospective students and their families are invited to a visitation program at Penn State Berks on Saturday, October 18, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Perkins Student Center, located just off Broadcasting Road in Reading. The event is part of the University's "Penn State Day" in which Penn State campuses throughout the state host visitation programs on the same day. Students will have an opportunity to complete their application during the program and the college will waive the application fee for Berks.

Family and Homecoming Weekend set to be a stompin’ good time

Families of Penn State Berks students will experience life on campus, while alumni will reconnect when the college hosts its annual Family and Homecoming Weekend Friday, October 17-Sunday, October 19, 2014. This year's event has a country western theme. The program will include activities for the entire family, with educational, social, and athletic events that showcase the campus. Most events are open to all attendees, but preregistration is required for the Alumni Reunion BBQ.

Berks alumna honored with MacArthur “Genius Grant”

Danielle (Perry) Bassett '04 was named a 2014 MacArthur Fellow along with 20 other "genius grant" winners on September 17, 2014. While her research focuses on how the brain is connected and how those connections change with disease states and learning new skills, for Bassett herself, her first connections with research began at Penn State Berks.

The Dignity Tour: Penn State laureate to visit Berks Oct. 15

Susan Russell, the 2014-15 Penn State laureate, introduces her philosophy with an essay reflective of the Civil Rights Act's 50th anniversary. Dr. Susan Russell, associate professor of theatre in the College of Arts and Architecture, has been named Penn State laureate for 2014-15. She will visit Penn State Berks on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, as part of her statewide "Dignity Tour" in which she will lead a public Town Hall-style meeting on Dignity and Diversity at 1 p.m.
