Dr. Michael Fidanza, Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences at Penn State Berks, delivered an invited seminar in the Department of Plant Science, University of Tennessee, in Knoxville titled "Teaching and Learning at Penn State Berks Campus" on October 28, 2014.
Students majoring in Engineering and Occupational Therapy have collaborated to create devices to meet the needs of individuals with physical challenges as part of the Pfreimer Adaptive Equipment Project (PADEP). They will present their designs in two separate sessions: the first on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, and the second on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, both at 1 p.m. in room 121, Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. The presentations are free and open to the public.
A new class of 125 Penn State Berks students will receive their baccalaureate and associate degrees on Friday, December 19, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Beaver Community Center when Berks hosts the fall 2014 commencement ceremony.

BERKS NONPROFITS COLLABORATING ON "GIVING TUESDAY" CAMPAIGN
READING, PA (Nov. 20) - A coalition of 29 Berks County nonprofit organizations is embarking on a campaign to take part in the national Giving Tuesday movement, which culminates Dec. 2.
The Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development Center will host a special presentation titled "Information Management Versus Knowledge Building: Implications for Text-Based Learning in On-Line and Off-Line Contexts" by Dr. Patricia Alexander, Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Maryland, on Friday, November 21, 2014, at 1 p.m. in room 244 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is open to the campus community, and light refreshments will be served.
The next Engineering, Business, and Computing (EBC) Division Speaker Series Presentation will feature Dr. Cees Lanting from Switzerland, who will present "Internet of Things, between Hype and Reality" on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. in room 244 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This presentation is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
U.S. Professors of the Year Names Grobman One of Four National WinnersDr. Laurie Grobman, Professor of English and Women's Studies at Penn State Berks, will be recognized as one of the "best" in American higher education when she is named "Outstanding Baccalaureate College Professor of the Year." She is one of four national winners of the 2014 U.S. Professors of the Year awards who will be honored on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at a luncheon and awards ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Senator David G. Argall (R-29) will host his first-ever Berks County 'Senator for a Day' event at Penn State Berks on Wednesday, November 19.
Argall, who will begin representing the western portion of Berks County effective on December 1 as part of the constitutionally-mandated reapportionment process, is eager to start off the program that has gained popularity among school districts in Schuylkill County.
The upcoming Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) Colloquium will feature two separate presentations: one titled "Learning about the Vietnam War through Conversations with Veterans" and another titled "A Communications Plan for the Health and Wellness Expo." The colloquium will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014, from 1:00-2:20 p.m. in room 104 of the Franco Building. This presentation focuses on pedagogy and student research/projects.
Fifteen Penn State Berks students enrolled in the college's Applied Psychology, Communication Arts and Sciences, and Global Studies courses got a lesson in fear when they traveled with Dr. Eric Lindsey, Professor of Psychology, and Dr. Cheryl L. Nicholas, Associate Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences, to Philadelphia on October 24, 2014, to participate in the "Grim Philly Twilight Tour," a walking tour of the city.
