Prominent folk musician and vocalist Mr. Joe Jencks will perform twice at Penn State Berks on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He will give a musical demonstration and presentation from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Lion's Den for Penn State Berks students, faculty, and staff. Then from 7:00 to 8:30 that evening he will give a concert across the hall in Tully's. The 7:00 p.m. performance is open to the public.
For Belén Rodríguez Mourelo, author of "Encounters in Exile: Themes in the Narrative of the Cuban Diaspora," writing about Cuba is personal. The introduction to her book describes her grandfather’s experience in Cuba over a 40-year span, from 1912–1952.
Dr. Bonnie J. Dow, Associate Professor and Chair of Communication Studies at Vanderbilt University, will present a lecture based on her new book, Watching Women's Liberation, 1970: Feminism's Pivotal Year on the Network News on April 13, 2015, at 7 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. (Originally scheduled for February, the lecture was rescheduled due to inclement weather.) This event is free and Dow will be available after the lecture to sign copies of her books.
JoAnne Pumariega, Instructor in Mathematics and Spanish at Penn State Berks, will be inducted into the 2015 Hall of Fame at Immaculata-LaSalle High School in Miami, FL. She will receive the Saint John Bosco Alumni Award during the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on May 2, 2015, at Immaculata-LaSalle High School.
Penn State Berks students will receive recognition at the University Scholastic Awards Ceremony on April 2, 2015, in the Multipurpose Room of the Perkins Student Center. The awards presented included the President's Freshman Award, the President Sparks Award, and the Evan Pugh Scholars Award.
When Penn State Berks Lecturer in English Composition Justin De Senso was deciding on a project for his Writing in the Social Sciences (English 202A) course, he had to look no further than the media headlines. The ongoing series of protests and civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri and throughout the country sparked the idea to take a fresh approach to the topic of the local community's perception of their police force.
The Penn State Berks Office of Alumni Relations will host an Easter Egg Hunt with the Nittany Lion on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 9 a.m. on the Janssen Conference Center Complex, with a rain date of Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m.
The annual on-campus Career and Internship Fair for currently enrolled students will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. More than fifty local companies will attend the fair and meet with students who are interested in employment and internship opportunities. A list of participating employers is available in the Career Services Office, room 10 of the Perkins Student Center.
Penn State Berks has been approved to offer the B.S. in Rehabilitation and Human Services degree. This degree program prepares students for entry-level positions in a variety of human service settings, particularly settings that provide services to persons with physical, emotional, or mental disabilities.
