These policies were established to promote fairness and efficiency in accessing tutoring services. The following is a brief overview of the policies.
- Student Enrollment: Only current Penn State Berks students can receive tutoring.
- Number of Sessions: Students can schedule one 30-minute appointment per subject per day. There is no daily limit for appointments if they are for different subjects.
- Arrival Time: Students have a 10-minute grace period for appointments. After 10 minutes, the appointment is considered a no-show. All sessions are in person in the Learning Center located in 161 Franco.
- No-Show Policy: If you have three no-show appointments during a semester, your account will automatically deactivate, preventing you from scheduling further appointments.
- Cancellations: If you can’t make your appointment, please cancel as early as possible. To do this, sign in, select your appointment, and click “cancel appointment” at the bottom. Early cancellations help other students fill your spot.
- No Appointments Available: If there are no appointments available when needed, please add your name to the waitlist. Click the clock icon next to the desired day on the schedule, fill out the form, and you will be notified if a time slot opens.
- Preparation: Students should come prepared with materials and questions, having attended class, and completed relevant reading and coursework.
- Proper Behavior: Disruptive behavior, including excessive noise (such as loud talking, music, or screaming), abuse of Learning Center property, disruption of operations, and harassment of faculty, staff, or other students will not be tolerated. Such behavior may result in the loss of Learning Center privileges, being escorted from the building by Police Services, or being reported to PSU Judicial Affairs.
- Online/Take-Home Exams: Tutors cannot assist with online or take-home exams or quizzes.
- Test Day Tutoring: Effective tutoring requires regular effort and preparation. It is discouraged to schedule last-minute tutoring right before tests, as it is generally less effective. Regular and consistent tutoring throughout the semester is recommended for the best results.
- Tutor Expectations: Tutors will support your understanding of the subject matter, but do not complete assignments or provide answers.
These guidelines ensure that students use tutoring services effectively and that resources are distributed fairly.
