As part of its sustainability initiatives, Penn State Berks had an on-site document shredder on campus for faculty and staff from 9 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, in the Franco Building parking lot.
Penn State Berks began the 2021-22 academic year with the third annual convocation ceremony for incoming and transfer students to welcome the members of the Class of 2025 to the college.
Penn State Berks has added a new certificate program in Spanish for Healthcare this fall. The program is offered in response to community needs. It will benefit students who want to enhance their Spanish speaking, reading, writing and translating skills in various health care and human services fields.
The Penn State Office for General Education has announced the selection of seven Penn State faculty who will serve as new advisers and program leaders and will help to build high-impact teaching and learning practices in general education across the institution. The seven new members will serve three-year terms as part of a team of 16 general education faculty scholars.
Penn State students, faculty and staff who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 and those who have not shared with the University that they are fully vaccinated will be required to test weekly for COVID-19 throughout the fall semester, or until they share with the University that they have been fully vaccinated.
The Penn State Berks Data Lions team recently took first place in the Anthem AI ‘Substance Use Disorder and Whole Health of the Person’ Hackathon, a competition to identify risk factors related to substance use, and conditions indicative of underlying substance abuse.
“The Engineering Ahead program has been a serious jumpstart into the engineering pathway at Penn State,” stated Kyle Haddock, a first-year student from Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, who plans to major in mechanical engineering. “I am very happy with my choice to join and I believe the program will continue to help me throughout my years in the industry.”
Penn State Berks has had a history of collaboration with the University of Split, from Berks helping the Split to develop a service-learning program in 2018 to present day.
Penn State Berks will welcome first-year students to its residential community as part of the campus' annual orientation program beginning on Friday, Aug. 20. Incoming students will move into the residence halls from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students should consult the University’s details for required student on-arrival COVID-19 testing.
The Penn State Berks elementary and early childhood education degree program is hosting a free day-long seminar titled “Issues of Trauma: Empowering School Practitioners” to address the dynamic issues of trauma facing schools as students return to classrooms.
